Vaccine Clinic Is by Appointment Only

As we have explained in news stories this week, all slots for today’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Ohio County for residents 80 and older are full.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department on Tuesday said some residents reported receiving a text message claiming they did not need an appointment for today’s clinic, which is being held at the health department.

That message is false.

The reality is there is a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine available right now. Ohio County was alloted 100 doses for this clinic, and a portion of those doses already went to residents at two local facilities that house older residents.

The remaining vaccine doses were spoken for through appointments made Monday by county residents.

It’s hard to understand why someone would attempt to confound the vaccination process with a message containing inaccurate information; no matter the reasoning, though, there are no open slots today for the clinic.

The health department and others are working as fast as possible to get the most vulnerable vaccinated; let’s let them do their job. If you don’t have an appointment today, please stay home and stay safe.
