City Savings Worth the Wait

When Wheeling officials first started talking about a new public safety building in 2018, the price tag was at $22 million. After initial plans fell through, the price dropped to $14 million, and now, with the first bid in for a new police station, it appears taxpayers will spend about $13 million for new police and fire headquarters near the downtown.

That’s a lot of money — but the cost is a far better deal for residents from where the city started.
