Officers Deserve Praise

A lot can happen in a span of five minutes. Just ask St. Clairsville police officers Kevin Yates and Andy Klotz.

Called to the Days Inn West earlier this month, the two officers arrived to find a woman in labor. Five minutes later, a new child entered the world.

“The baby was coming. There was no choice. The baby said, ‘I’m coming,’ and she was here,” Yates said.

“It’s not too often a police officer gets a call to deliver a baby,” Klotz added.

Both men used their own experiences in witnessing their children being born to help the new mother. “We’re not trained in how to deliver babies, but just knowing we had to calm her,” Yates said.

“That was one of our main goals, to try and keep her calm,” Klotz added.

The mother and her daughter are fine, and now Yates and Klotz will have something to always remember their time not just protecting but serving the public in all situations
