Park Trustees Say Thanks for Levy

Editor, News-Register:

As members of the Board of Trustees for Memorial Park of St. Clairsville and Richland Township, we would like to extend our gratitude to the voters for supporting and passing the recent operations levy for Memorial Park.

During the early stages of the levy campaign many individuals and organizations expressed the desire to assist in getting the word out and ensuring that the public was educated as to the park and the reasons for the levy. We were truly humbled by the response and the grassroots campaign efforts that resulted in an overwhelming vote in support of the park.

Although we recognize the need for continued financial vigilance and efforts to cut costs wherever possible, the passage of the levy has ensured that our park will continue to offer an ideal venue for celebrating a family picnic or gathering, catching a baseball game or other sporting event, enjoying the summer weather at pool side, and/or a place for parents and grandparents to spend some treasured (and all too fleeting) moments with the children in their lives.

In addition to the many people of St. Clairsville and Richland Township who voted in favor of the levy, the board would like to recognize a number of entities that provided the much needed assistance during the levy campaign. These groups and organizations include: the mayor and members of the Council for the City of St. Clairsville; the St. Clairsville-Richland City School Board and administration; the Richland Township trustees; the coaches, team members and families of the St. Clairsville baseball team; the coaches, team members and families of the St. Clairsville tennis team; the coaches, team members and families of the St. Clairsville summer swim team; the various fraternal organizations and senior centers/health care facilities that held informational meetings and the various local businesses that displayed signs and disseminated brochures. We would also like to thank the media outlets including the broadcast media and the print media for educating the public on the details of the levy and for any and all kind words of support.

As a small, volunteer board, we realize that the passage of the levy was largely due to the passion of those numerous individuals who lent their time and support to educating and energizing the entire community. We also know that the voting public believes in the value of the park, and expects those of us entrusted with its continued care and improvement to ensure that future generations can appreciate all it has to offer. Again, we extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire community for the support of the Memorial Park levy campaign.
