Shooting Site Opposed

Editor, News-Register:

Imagine … a not-so-country way of life.

Imagine waking up every day to hear gunfire from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for 365 days a year.

Imagine you work the night shift and cannot sleep because of the noise of the gunfire.

Imagine trying to cut grass, weed your garden, do outside chores, or just sit on your porch for some peace and quiet only to hear the sounds of gunfire continuously.

Imagine your property value will decrease because no one will want to purchase your home because of the noise level.

Imagine what it will do to the wildlife when run from their natural habitat.

Oglebay Park Commission is trying to build a clay sport shooting facility on the former Maxwell property, in which only 75% of the acreage was donated to the park.

Obviously they do not want the noise level to interfere with what events occur at Oglebay Park, but it must be OK with them to interrupt our country living. There are 50 families and homes that will be impacted with this noise level all day long.

Surely Oglebay Park Commission would find a more suitable place on park acreage to build this facility.

We hope that the people involved in wanting this would just ask themselves: Would we want this for our homes and neighbors? Would we want to hear continuous gunfire every day? I think the answers to both questions would be a resounding NO!
