Honoring Those Who Serve and Protect Us

Many of those who serve and protect us as police officers, sheriff’s deputies, state police troopers and in other law enforcement capacities will gather for a somber ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Heritage Port in Wheeling.

It will be the seventh annual memorial ceremony honoring those who gave their lives while serving in law enforcement. Nationwide, 163 of them perished while on duty just last year.

We rely on the men and women in blue, green, brown, gray and black to keep us safe — sometimes for our own lives. Yet it is too rare that we express our gratitude to them.

They earn it each and every time they don the uniform and go to work.
