Marshall Memo: Twigg Named Dr. David Ealy Community Service Award Winner
Although the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner is eight weeks away, a portion of the planning is already complete. There are two changes at the dinner, each related to awards.
In past meetings, those receiving honors have been announced at the meeting. However, current President Zack Blair has decided to change the format and the recipients have already been announced.
The chamber will recognize Bernie Twigg as this year’s Dr. David Ealy Community Service Award winner. Twigg has been a long-time chamber member, including serving as president, but has never been honored with the top award.
The chamber will also grant the Lifetime Achievement Award to the Moundsville Economic Development Council for its impact in the community. The MEDC seeks out and develops means to revitalize the business atmosphere of Moundsville. The purpose is bringing social, cultural, and economic growth to the community.
For those who aren’t aware, the chamber was organized to promote and advance the welfare of the county and surrounding areas. The chamber is committed to helping educate, market, and provide networking opportunities for its members.
There will also be a presentation by West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee during the Chamber meeting. Gee has been a leader in higher education for more than four decades.
He will be introduced by master of ceremonies Karin Janiszewski, a chamber board of director member and regional director of WVU-Medicine.
The dinner will be held at the Moundsville Center (the former West Virginia Penitentiary) on Oct. 12. Doors will open at 5 p.m., followed by the dinner. Tickets will be available beginning on Sept. 1 at the chamber office.
