A Tasty Event

October 19, 2012 - Phyllis Sigal
I've been to "taste of" events before ... but, never have I been to one as well organized as the Taste of Elm Grove held Oct. 18 at the Osiris Temple, Monument Place.

The event was sponsored by the Elm Grove Business Association, a group about 70 members strong.

Rick Courts and his wife Lynn, of the Paper Shack, along with organization president Beth Strawn and VP Gayle Seidler of Paree Insurance Centers, are just a few of the many people that made this event happen.

The event is in its sixth year, and I can only see it getting bigger!

A large room at the Osiris Temple was dedicated to the event, with long tables set up in the center, and the food vendors situated on the perimeter. It was so easy to navigate the room and get your food, with practically no waiting whatsoever at each of the tables. The food was really delicious, with a great variety. And there certainly was plenty — more than enough for me!

Just some of the offerings included: sauteed shrimp (red pepper and citrus varieties), prime rib sliders and risotto from Ye Old Alpha; pulled pork sliders and pepperoni rolls from Elm Terrace Deli; miniature pies from Oliver's Pies; three kinds of flatbread from Quaker Steak and Lube; pastas from Figaretti's; the new deep-dish pizza and dessert pizza from Domino's Pizza; sweet tea and cookies from McDonald's; roasted potatoes and yams with onions, salad and little chicken salad sandwiches from Marian's Place; chicken noodle soup, pulled pork, cole slaw and homemade potato chips from Ruttenbuck's; Orange Julius and other assorted treats from Dairy Queen; artichoke dip and sweet chili and Thai chicken from River City; and five kinds of soup from Hall of Fame Cafe.

Those in attendance had a chance to vote for their favorites in a variety of categories such as appetizer, main dish, side dish, dessert and beverage. The winners were: appetizer, River City; side dish, Ruttenbuck's; main dish, Ye Olde Alpha; dessert, Oliver's Pies; and beverage, a tie between McDonald's and Hall of Fame Cafe.

So, congrats to all the winners and special congrats to everyone responsible for making this evening so much fun! I can't wait for next year's event!
