Mother's Day

May 8, 2013 - Heather Ziegler
Young, old, single, married, divorced, mothers come in all varities. There are some good ones and then there are some bad ones. Most will tell you their personal story of labor and birthing without much prompting. We wear our labor pains like a badge or honor. That's just part of the motherhood bond. Mothers of adoptive children are automatically grandmothered in the 'hood Forget those birthing stories for a minute. I want to know about your best Mother's Day. How was it spent? Did you receive a gift that made you cry? What do you do special for your mother? Sometimes the best gifts are those with real thought behind them. My son made me a teapot shaped booklet in kindergarten in which he drew pictures to tell me what he thought about me, the flowers I planted, the food I cooked, the things we did together. It is the kind of thing that no matter when you look at it over the years, it makes you smile and cry a little. Tell me about your Mother's Day.....

I remember one particular one when one 12 year old son rode his bike from the old Kroger carrying a huge swan planter filled with flowers. Had it forever.

I still have it stuck to my computer tower from Emma when she was in kindergarten -- in her own handwriting, which was a big deal at the time. "Top 5 Reasons Why You're the Best: 5. You are perfect. 4. You are the best. 3. You are good. 2. You are nice. 1. You are awesome." The a's are all backwards, which of course makes it even more endearing!
