Local government need to look hard at downsizing and leave the spending by the private sector. In addition, money is being spent by cities on wasteful items. Now it the time to start cutting wages and staff like the rest of America has been doing to make a smaller government budget.

What kind of cuts moving foreword? Does that mean loss of jobs? Does that mean they will cancel the 15% raise the city leaders, including the yearly raise herring gives himself to run the city into the ground?

That lawyer that sued the city of wheeling police dept and settled for 55K-does the city have insurance for this or does this come from the taxpayers too? I dont claim to know everything about city finance, but it burns my *** that, or if taxpayers should have to pay for the ignorance of such employees. I agree with the city settling, as they were wrong. I dont mind training or education to prevent morons from harrassing citizens, however, I would not be surprised if the attorney did not carry that gun in and have an employee at KFC inform cops just because he knew they were stupid, didnt know the law, and would screw up. Is this why we have had 3 chiefs in 4 years? Because they cant find one dedicated and talented enough to train and educate a handful of mentally challenged badge and gun holders. McKenzie not looking too smart either.

Tax and spend libs!!!

3/4 of a MILLION a year to fund the 911 center!!!!

Are they paying dispatchers 50 dollars an hour???!!!

Typical tyrannical government that REFUSES to cut spending!!!

If you rely on income as unreliable as gambling and grants to fund your government then you are completely CLUELESS!!!

Okay, so they will have to cut about 2.5% from the budget. Big deal. I remember taking a 10% cut to keep WP alive. It worked for two decades, so it wasn't a bad thing. My heart bleeds for the civil service types. If you're not happy, go get another job.

Oh yeah, this is the second reign of obie, no jobs out there either.

People are missing an important question. Whose idea was the FLAT FEE? Seems like one side or another wanted it?

The City should lobby the State to drop the 2.5 mill fee for all WV tracks.Go with a straight % of sales: before it is too late.

Note the bonds(debt) for the demolitions(aka"growth") depend on property tax from WD.

When the gas drilling boom is over-wells established- Wheeling will be left with massive unoccupied hotel rooms and no attractions to fill them.

Gambling "loss"? If the city was DUMB enough to count on gambling revenue, they should suffer the "loss".

That is why they call it "Gambling"!!!!

McKenzie-time to get real and tighten your belt and pull yourself up by the bootstraps, your pork days are over. So every dept takes cuts, just like every household in times of economic crisis. Those gamblers at the casino-what do you think their childrens lives are like, think they are eating well and thriving? Do not care-just so the politicians get a buck. Go have dinner over there and see the disease in progress. It is shameful, worse than any drug I have seen. People throwing money away and many in hopes of getting themselves out of poverty. Gaming=targetting the mentally challenged-like taking candy from a baby. Shameful. We do it so cities can profit and balance their budget. We did it w/o before, figure it out. Cant solve problem w same thinking that created it.
