Israel on Tap to Become Major Natural Gas Producer, but Geopolitical Tangle May Await

Troll: First, this is just more Nat Gas abundance baloney. Israel is producing from one field, the Tamar, and developing another, Leviathan. Both are offshore and require drilling in water about a mile deep. However, they are conventional gas deposits in sandstone and carbonate rock and don't require fracking. The kicker is that the entire estimated reserves of the Tamar and Leviathan fields, together, over their entire projected lives, would supply the US gas market for, maybe, two years. That might be generous. Don't forget how small, in size and population, Israel is. This is just more nat gas magical thinking hype. It sounds like an exciting new development, but, in the grand scheme, it's peanuts. Israel, in no way shape or form, will become a "major" gas producer, as the title of this poorly-researched piece indicates it will.

We subsidize the OPEC countries for hundreds of billions of dollars per year.

We developed their resources, they stole those resources and now we have to pay them for the oil that we paid to have developed.

CT. How right you are. I'm glad that someone sees Israel as they are. Most are afraid to speak out.

I'm glad they found some gas. Maybe now they will stop coming around with their hands out every year demanding billions in foreign aid while enjoying a European standard of living..

I wonder how long it will be before the Palestinians claim that the gas belongs to them? In typical Muslim fashion, they wait for other, harder working and more intelligent capitalists to find and develop the resources, and take all the risk, then they move in to steal a productive field.

Without American and British companies doing all the hard work, the middle East Muslim kings would still be living in tents and riding camels and dining on figs and grapes.

There is a reason by Alaweed can afford a $500 million airplane and why the Saudi king owns multiple customized 747s. That reason is that white western English speakers found and built the wealth of the fat Muslim rulers.

I hope the Israelis aren’t fracking. Because if they are I’m sure WVUGEO will start complaining about the salt water they’re dumping in the Mediterranean and icecream will start feeling the earthquakes.
