Orie Welch

WELCH, Orie P., age 99, of New Martinsville, WV went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 11, 2013.

He was born November 17, 1913 in Weston, WV, the son of the late Tilden and Theadochie Richards Welch.

Orie began working as an upholsterer for Wells Eakin Co. in New Martinsville before World War II and retired there at age 77.

During the War he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 82nd Airborne. During his years of service he was a prisoner of war. He also served as a councilman for the City of New Martinsville.

He was an active and devoted member of the First Church of God in New Martinsville, where he served in many capacities and held various positions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Ruth Steel Welch; two sons, James Edward Welch and Gregory Paul Welch; two sisters, Margaret Crosby and Geneva Adams.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Bruce) Johnson of Sistersville; two grandchildren, Aaron (Anissa) Bohrer and Angela (Scott) Cooper, both of Paden City, WV; four great -grandchildren, Lindsay Bohrer, Seth Bohrer, Hope Cooper and Nate Cooper, all of Paden City, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville.

Family will also receive friends on Tuesday from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the First Church of God, 255 Russell Avenue, New Martinsville with Rev. Russ Whitener officiating.

Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville with military graveside services.
