Aloysius Furka

FURKA, Aloysius A., 86, of Steubenville died Monday January 14, 2013 at home. He was born June 15, 1926 in Lyndora, PA.

He is the son of the late Demiter and Katherine Jancosko Furka; Al is also preceded in death by his wife, Anne C. Vasiloff Furka; four brothers, Joseph, Steven, William and Ambrose; two sisters, Anne Furka and Helen Furka; one grandson, Andrew (AJ) Pollus; one granddaughter, Mikayla Marie Furka.

Al retired as the sales manager after 32 years of service from Iron City Distributing Co. He also worked as the manager of the former Sparkle Market which became Loblaws and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS French.

Surviving are one son, Robert (Linda) Furka of Wheeling; three daughters, Veronica (Andrew) Pollus of Conneaut Lake, PA, Deborah Furka (husband John Race) of Seminole, FL and Mary Faith (Bill) Recinella of Mason, OH; one brother, Anthony (Barbara) Furka of Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren, Audra and Christopher Furka, Beth Johnson, Alison (Lloyd) Race Hildebrand, Julie (Jamie) Angelo, Cory Race, Benjamin Grueschow, Timothy Race and Kelley Recinella (Willie Whitty), Kyle and Kimberly Recinella; three great- grandchildren, Julia Anne Johnson, Kaden Lloyd Hildebrand and Addisyn Leigh Whitty.

Al was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church; the American Legion Argonne Post 33; the Knights of Columbus No. 472, where he was a past Grand Knight and current Financial Secretary; Slovak Catholic Sokol, Lyndora, PA Wreath No. 54; and he was a volunteer at Lancia Villa Royale.

Calling hours are Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Thomas Nau, celebrant. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Charity Hospice, P.O. Box 2483, Wintersville, OH
