Avoid Traffic Woes During I-70 Project

February 24, 2013
The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Wheeling officials met last week with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, to discuss a range of issues important to local residents. Among them was a plan for about $100 million in improvements to Interstate 70 in Ohio County.

As we reported several months ago, the state Division of Highways plans to spend much of the money for necessary repairs and improvements to bridges.

Clearly, that is work that needs to be done - probably the sooner, the better.

At the same time, area residents are painfully aware of the disruptions that can occur when sections of I-70 are closed.

Convenience is not the only issue. A substantial amount of the nation's commerce moves on I-70 - and the last thing West Virginia needs is to be known among economic developers as a transportation bottleneck.

Tomblin should instruct the DOH to make every practical effort to avoid such disruptions.
