Create a Fresh Look With Spring-like Furniture

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Making one's home feel more spring-like can be as simple as adding a colorful accent table to purchasing a fresh new recliner.

Hoffman House Furniture of Shadyside owner John Visnick said his business is steady year-round and doesn't typically increase in the spring. But his No. 1 item - and now the only item he carries - is the La-Z-Boy recliner.

"It's well made. It lasts longer than the rest," he said. "People around here don't buy lighter colored furniture."

Still, Visnick said he carries chairs in a variety of hues. He displays 100 chairs on his storeroom floor and there are another 200 in his warehouse.

"No one stocks as much as I do," Visnick noted. "Most people come here to buy - not to look."

In St. Clairsville, Value City Department Store manager James Dodd said the Passport Collection has a variety of accent tables that come in many colors and styles.

Meanwhile, the American Signature line of furniture also offers a large color variety for bedroom, dining room and living room furniture and tables.

"Accents and tables - that's how you change a room," he said, noting mirrors, vases and other decorative items are also considered accents.

He noted the store's business doesn't typically increase in the spring unless Value City is stocking outdoor furniture - always a popular item. Locally, when people receive their income tax returns they purchase bigger ticket items such as sofas and chairs.

"Last week, we were the No. 1 store in the company," Dodd said. "And people love our outdoor stuff. But I don't know if we're going to have it this year or not."
