Joseph Lee Wright, 39, was arrested this week after allegedly grabbing a girl by the throat in his residence in Cameron.
Wright was charged with child abuse resulting in injury and second offense domestic battery. He remains in Northern Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Wright, Marshall County Deputy Benjamin Staggs received a call of possible domestic violence at a rural address in Cameron. The victim, who resides with Wright and her mother, stated Joseph had gotten into an argument with a family friend at the house when the girl told them to stop. Wright then allegedly grabbed the child by the throat and began hitting her head against a wall.

He then allegedly struck her several times in the face, causing her to lose consciousness. In addition, the girl suffered minor cuts and swelling. The girl's relation to Wright was not specified in the report.
The victim's mother said Joseph had been drinking heavily that day and "things got out of hand." Wright had left the residence by the time a deputy had arrived.
A preliminary hearing for Wright is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Dec. 30.
