Tickets Are Still Avaliable For CRC

WHEELING — Tickets are still available for the popular Cancer Research Classic (CRC), sponsored by Wheeling Hospital and set for Jan. 6-7 at Wheeling Jesuit University. The 10th annual event once again will showcase the best in high school basketball.

This year’s Classic features several perennial powerhouses and marquee players. ESPN returns to broadcast two of the nation’s top ranked matchups and other outstanding games.

Ten of the top 20 ranked high school basketball programs are participating in this year’s event. The teams include perennial powerhouses: DeMatha of Hyattsville, MD; Gonzaga of Washington, DC; La Lumiere of La Porte, IN; Neumann-Goretti of Philadelphia; Greenforest of Decatur, GA: Roselle Catholic of Roselle, NJ; Westlake of Atlanta; Findlay Prep of Henderson, NV; IMG of Bradenton, FL and Wheeler of Atlanta;

Also in the lineup are Villa Angela – St. Joseph of Cleveland; North Allegheny of Wexford, PA; First Love Christian of Washington, PA; Pine-Richland of Gibsonia, PA.; Wheeling Central and Wheeling Park high schools.

Friday’s matchup between La Lumiere and Findlay Prep will be one of the top games of the year nationwide in high school basketball, said CRC Director Dr. Gregory Merrick, executive director of the Schiffler Cancer Center, Urologic Research Institute and Men’s Health Center, all at Wheeling Hospital. The second top ranked game of the year will be Saturday’s matchup between DeMatha and Roselle Catholic.

More than 600 CRC players have gone on to play college basketball throughout the U.S., including in such prominent programs as Villanova, Temple, Pitt, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Miami, Louisville, Memphis, Tennessee, Kansas State, Texas, UCLA, Ohio State University, Kentucky and Arizona.

Overall, 25 CRC alumni are playing in the NBA, including three of the last six NBA Rookies of the Year.

General admission tickets for the event on Jan. 6 are $10 for adults and $5 for students. On Jan. 7 prices are $14 for adults and $6 for students. Weekend passes are $18 for adults and $10 for students.

Reserved seating is $20 for Jan. 6; $40 for Jan. 7; and $50 for the weekend. Tickets for reserved seating must be purchased on or before Dec. 30 by calling 304-243-6412. Tickets cannot be exchanged. Reserved seating cannot be purchased at the gate.

The event also provides free health screenings for men. Proceeds of the CRC support Wheeling Hospital’s men’s health programs and undergraduate cancer research.
