PREP ROUNDUP: Wheeling Central Softball Secures Two Victories

STEUBENVILLE — Jairika Baylor compiled a home run, single and double as Wheeling Central defeated Trinity, 18-6, at Franciscan University.

Maddie LeMasters also hit a homer for the Maroon Knights along with two singles. Kaitlyn Ferns (three singles) and Allison Davidson (single, triple, two doubles) were also solid at the plate.

Wheeling Central 14 Greensburg 0

STEUBENVILLE — Baylor hit another home run along with a single while Jayden Thomas had two singles as Wheeling Central defeated Greensburg Catholic.

Wheeling Park 6-1

Warren 0-2

VINCENT — Wheeling Park split a doubleheader with Warren. Kieran Johnson and Lauren Fox both supplied a single, double and RBI for the Patriots (4-4) in Game 1.

Ashley Linder put down two singles in the second game while Kacy Long fired eight strikeouts.

Brooke 9, Martins Ferry 4

WELLSBURG — Rachel Kazmirski fired 16 strikeouts while Landyn Haynes had two doubles and two RBI as Brooke defeated Martins Ferry.

Gabby Veltri had a single and double for the Bruins (3-2) while Carli Julio, Megan Cross, Jaycee Mitchell, Haley Birmingham and Kloee Billick all had two singles.

For the Purple Riders (0-1), Lauren McFarland belted a two-run homer while Alea Funkhouser tallied two singles and brought home a run.

Linsly 14-8

Union Local 1-8

MORRISTOWN — Sophia Recrosio totaled four singles, a double, triple and five RBI as Linsly split with Union Local. The Cadets held the Jets to one run in Game 1 as Sarah Heller had two doubles and two RBI while Karena Recrosio had three singles.

The Jets bounced back in Game 2 as they scored nine runs in the first inning. Kaden Mercer had two singles, one triple and two RBI while Taylor Powell and Emilee Robb each had two singles and two RBI. Bailey Rinks also belted a single and double for Union Local.

John Marshall 16

Buckhannon-Upshur 7

GLEN DALE –Anna Blake ripped three hits and drove in a run to lead John Marshall over Buckhannon-Upshur.

Mack Hall provided a single, a double and four RBI, Taylor Gray supplied a single, double and three RBI and Kiley Ward turned in two hits and three RBI.

Williamstown 0

GLEN DALE — Tessa Wise did not allow a hit as the Monarchs only needed three innings to take care of Williamstown.

She struck out four in the win. Abby Blake peppered three hits for three RBI and Dori Kins added three RBI and a hit.

Harrison Central 9

Ridgewood 3

RIDGEWOOD — Britt Positano supplied two singles, a triple while Jenna Young had two singles and three RBI as Harrison Central defeated Ridgewood. Sarah Touville suppled two singles for the Huskies.

Cambridge 10-22

Shenandoah 3-7

CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge scored a total of 32 runs as it swept Shenandoah.

Bre Stewart compiled four singles, a double, triple and five RBI for the Bobcats (2-0). Alexis Wilkinson was also solid as she totaled three triples, two singles and seven RBI.

Ritchie County 1

Magnolia 0

ELLENBORO — Ashley Tharp fired 13 strikeouts for Magnolia, but Ritchie County scored the lone run in the sixth inning to claim a victory.

Magnolia 16, Liberty 8

ELLENBORO — Magnolia scored eight runs in the first two innings to secure a victory over Liberty.

Kayna Anderson (four singles, three RBI); Ashley Kelley (three singles, one double, two RBI) and Tharp (HR, three singles, two RBI) each supplied four hits for the Blue Eagles.

Paige Brill also was solid with three singles.


Ritchie County 10

Paden City 6

ELLENBORO — A six-run sixth inning doomed Paden City (2-3) as Ritchie County (4-1) pulled away for a win.

Jordan Stackpole paced the Wildcats’ offense with three hits, while Alec Chaplan tallied two hits and two RBI and Matt Saxon supplied two hits.

Ryan Cross delivered a hit and three RBI.

Central Crossing 6

Wheeling Central 4

WHEELING — Central Crossing rallied for four runs in the sixth to defeat Wheeling Central.

Angelo Gentile, Ben Foster and Dominic Pompeo each delivered RBI singles for the Knights (1-2) and Clay Slyder added a double.

Berea-Midpark 16

Brooke 4

WELLSBURG — Berea scored in five of the seven innings to upend Brooke.

Nick Langley (two singles), Mason Thompson (two singles) and Camden Bates (single, double) all supplied multilpe hits for the Bruins.

Wellsville 10, Hundred 0

WELLSVILLE — Justin Thirtyacre fired nine strikeouts as Wellsville shut out Hundred.

John Marshall 11-6

Buckhannon Upshur 1-6

GLEN DALE — Chas McCool totaled three singles, one triple and four RBI as John Marshall spilt with Buckhannon Upshur.

Josh Schramm compiled two doubles and three RBI in Game 1 for the Monarchs (1-5).

Union Local 8-17

Shenandoah 7-1

MORRISTOWN — On Opening Day for Ohio, Union Local swept Shenandoah. Luke Merrit supplied two singles and a double while Carter Loase had three singles in Game 1.

In Game 2, Hunter McCort had three singles and a double while bringing in four RBI for the Jets (2-0) and Kolby Smolira complie a single, double and RBI. Dakota Hess also had a double and brought in four runs.

Harrison Central 6

Buckeye Local 5

CADIZ — Andrew Clelland fired eight strikeouts as Harrison Central defeated Buckeye Local.

Skylar Mazeroski (single, double) and Trevor Carman (two singles) both tallied multiple hits for the Huskies.

For the Panthers, Frederick Hetler II supplied a double and single.
