PREP ROUNDUP: Magnolia’s Season Comes to an End in Baseball

ELLENBORO — Magnoliaís season came to an end in baseball as it fell to Ritchie County 2-0 in the West Virginia Class A Region One, Section Two championship game.

The Rebels scored all 10 of their runs in the second and third inning en route to a victory.

Ritchie County will face off against Wheeling Central for the Region One championship. The Maroon Knights defeated Cameron, 11-3 in Game 3 of the Section One, Region One championship.

Matthew Gaiser and Silas McKeever provided the singles for the Blue Eagles (10-17).


Division II

Maysville 4, Indian Creek 2

MAYSVILLE — Cory Amis struck out five batters, but Indian Creek fell to Maysville.

Amis and Klay Cottis and Peyton Michalos all tallied two singles for the Redskins.

Richie Gualtiere and Tyler Smarrella both had RBI singles.


Division IV

Strasburg 4, Shadyside 2

OLD WASHINGTON — Strasburg scored two runs in the sixth inning to secure a victory over Shadyside in a district semifinal matchup.

Izzy Swords supplied two singles and one RBI for the Tigers.

Syd Destifanes and Madison Davis also had two singles.

Division III

Martins Ferry 3

Newcomerstown 2

CADIZ — Abby Bumbico fired five strikeouts as Martins Ferry held off a fierce Newcomerstown rally to secure a victory.

Maria Clark belted two singles and brought home two runs for the Purple Riders while Hunter Pollack tallied a RBI double.

Sandy Vally 14, Edison 6

BOWERSTOWN — Sandy Valley scored in five of the six innings it came to the plate in a victory over Edison.

Kiley Bahel paced the Wildcats with four hits and three RBI, while Kennadie McElroy tallied two hits.

Division II

Steubenville 9, St. Clairsville 1

CONNORVILLE — Sammie Cucarese and Anaiya Minnifield each turned in two hits to lead Steubenville past St. Clairsville.

Jenna Jaskowiak paced the Red Devils with two hits and a RBI.
