Wheeling Post 1 Stays Alive At State Tournament

Post 1 in must-win game vs. Morgantown today

KEYSER — After a crushing defeat early Friday, Wheeling Post 1 was three outs away from elimination.

Down three in the bottom of the seventh, Post 1 defied the odds, scoring four runs to secure an improbable 7-6 comeback victory over South Charleston.

Hunter Kelly supplied the walk-off magic as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the game-winner.

The win gives Wheeling a shot at Morgantown today in a must-win matchup.

A win will advance Post 1 to the state championship.

Jon Milton provided four hits and a RBI in the win over South Charleston, while Jarrod Jones delivered two knocks and James Salvatori supplied a hit and two RBI.

Eli Petho, Trevor Thomas and Chas McCool all plated a run in the win, as well.

Milton earned the victory in relief, striking out one in an inning pitched.

Dylan Gongola and Isaac Hines covered the first six frames.

ROMNEY — A nine-run second inning doomed Wheeling in Friday’s opener against Morgantown.

Milton paced the offense with two hits and three RBI, while Jones turned in two hits and a RBI.

Dom Gorence recorded a hit and two RBI, Zach Taylor ripped a RBI single and Gongola added a RBI.

Eli Petho took the loss.
