Cards Fall to Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON — The Cardinals were handed a 33-19 loss at West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at Cebe Ross Field in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) game.

The Wheeling University football team drops to 0-4 overall, 0-4 MEC. Meanwhile, the Bobcats improve to 1-3 overall, 1-2 in league play.

Sophomore quarterback Tucker Strachan went 25 of 38 for 310 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss.

Sophomore wide receiver Jake Keenan finished with six catches for 111 yards and a touchdown, while classmate Ryan LaFollette posted a team-best nine catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.

HIGH SCHOOL

Conotton Valley 43 Bridgeport 28

BRIDGEPORT — Five running backs ran for at-least 50 yards for Conotton Valley, which did not attempt a pass, in a victory over Bridgeport.

Ben Broderick led the way with 152 yards and a touchdown, while Braden Caldwell followed close behind with 129 yards and a score.

Evan Rice tallied 76 yards and a touchdown and James Burleson added 58 yards and a score.

Colin Jackson paced the Bulldogs with 201 yards and two touchdown passes, while Joe Bugaj supplied 123 yards rushing and a score.

Steubenville Catholic 35 Caldwell 2

STEUBENVILLE — Jeffrey Dawson punched in three touchdowns and ran for 94 yards as Steubenville Catholic blasted Caldwell.

Shadyside

d. Monroe Central

25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17

WOODSFIELD — Tory Hendershot had 11 kills with seven digs and two aces as Shadyide topped Monroe Central in four sets.

Sarah Teasdale added 10 kills and five digs for the Tigers. Riley Brown chipped in with 10 kills and five digs, while Madison Davis added 38 assists, three aces, two kills and two blocks, and Caroline Mercer had 17 digs with three aces and a kill.

Kalista Friday recorded 21 digs, six points and an ace for the Seminoles. Abby Thompson added 13 digs, eight points, six kills and an ace.

WOODSFIELD — Trista Morris paced Monroe Central (10-6) with 12 points, 13 digs, five aces and three kills as the Seminoles bounced back to sweep Wheeling Central.

Friday added 11 digs, eight points and an ace, while Thompson scored 12 points with four aces, three kills and 13 digs.

MIDDLEBOURNE — Tyler Consolidated hosted a quad and was able to down John Marshall and Calhoun County, before falling to Oak Glen.

Allie Miller had a solid day with 27 points, six aces, 33 digs and five kills for the Silver Knights. Madison DeVaughn chipped in with 17 points, 19 digs and two aces.
