Oak Glen Captures State Crown in Class AA Volleyball
CHARLESTON — The Oak Glen volleyball team ended its season in the perfect way. Down 2-0, the Golden Bears rallied to defeat Shady Spring 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-5 to claim the Class AA state volleyball title Saturday afternoon at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center and secure an undefeated season.
The Golden Bears finished the season 38-0.
“During set one and two our nerves got the best of us,” Oak Glen coach Morgan Poling said. “Anytime you’re playing for a state title, there’s pressure and there’s nerves. However, after winning set three, we were able to keep our nerves under control and have some fun.
“Our momentum changed after winning the third set, and we never looked back. There are 13 girls on our roster, and each girl contributed from the bench to the floor. It was a full team effort. It’s been a season we will never forget. I couldn’t be more proud of these young ladies. “
Skye Stokes tallied 29 kills and served up four aces to pace Oak Glen.while Hannah Rogers added 12 kills and an ace.
McKayla Goodlin was also solid for Oak Glen as she added eight kills. Jaedyn Hissam compiled dished out 40 assists and three kills while Alayna Kranis contributed four kills.
Brittney Giorgini supplied five digs.
