Florida Standout Signs with Hilltoppers

West Liberty University head softball coach Herb Minch continues to cast a wide net in his recruiting efforts, as evidenced by his latest addition to the defending Mountain East Conference champions’ arsenal.

Bree Hockett, an All-Conference standout from Palm Beach Central High School in Wellington, Fla., has signed to continue her athletic and academic careers on the hilltop.

“Bree is a really versatile player with the ability to play a multitude of positions, starting with catcher,” Minch said. “She swings the bat pretty well and never stops working to improve. With that kind of mindset, she’ll fit right into our team. We’re a pretty competitive bunch.”

Hockett was a four-year letter-winner at Palm Beach Central, spending most of her time behind the plate while also getting some outfield reps. She hit .367 as a senior with an OPS of just under .700 and didn’t commit an error in the field all season.

A travel ball veteran during the summer months, her Wellington Wild Silver squad won the ISA Under-10 Florida state championship in 2013. She currently plays for the TNT Florida Gold.

Hockett was an honor roll student throughout her high school career and a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. She plans to study Athletic Training at West Liberty.
