WOTC Calls Off Summer Camps, West Virginia Open

With the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Wheeling Oglebay Tennis Club has made changes to its typical summer schedule of events.

According to WOTC President Debbie Pickens, “Unfortunately, we have had to make some difficult decisions. After much consideration, the Board of Directors has cancelled the 2020 WOTC Summer Camps at Oglebay and the Bordas and Bordas West Virginia Open.”

The WOTC hopes to resume some events later in the summer and to offer the Millie Mulhern Youth Tennis program in the fall.

Previously cancelled events include the Elementary Play Day, Spring Millie Mulhern Youth Tennis, and the Jack Dorsey Senior Memorial Tournament. Plans are to schedule these again in 2021.

This disruption of WOTC programming does not mean that there is no activity at the Oglebay Tennis/Racquet Sport Center. Racquet sports are among the safest of all activities during this challenging time, and at Oglebay, the season has begun.

The Oglebay facility offers tennis, pickleball, and platform tennis. To reserve courts for any of these racquet sports call the shop at 304-243-4040. The Wheeling Park Commission offers a season pass or half-hour rates.

There are 8 clay and 2 hard tennis courts ready for play. Experienced players will appreciate the comfort of the clay surface. And those wanting to give tennis a try can test their skills on either surface. Beginners can request equipment at the shop.
