Central, Man Game Back On

WHEELING — On today’s episode of ‘Will They Play Football?’, Wheeling Central and Man have received the green light to play football tonight at 6 p.m. at Man High School.

This comes following Wednesday’s decision to cancel the game due to state officials not signing off on the contest since Man was still in virtual learning.

The short notice doesn’t give either team much time to prepare but the coaches like the challenge.

“As we’re talking, our coaches are working to get a gameplan together watching film from last year and breaking down tendencies,” Central coach Mike Young said. “We’re going to be ready to play. It’s still blocking, tackling, taking away the long pass, taking away the long run and trying to get explosive plays. Those things don’t change.”

Man is a four-hour trek from Wheeling but after a roller-coaster week that saw the game switch from on to off to back on again multiple times, the Knights are just happy to be playing football.

“The bottom line is we are going to play instead of not having a game after a big win from last week (35-17 win over Shadyside),” Young said. “We play Fort Frye next week and going against them after possibly having a bye week this week would not have been good for the team’s tempo and consistency.”

The Knights look to keep that tempo going this week after picking up their first win of the season last week at Shadyside.
