PREP ROUNDUP: Big Red Ousted by Dover
STEUBENVILLE — Dover went in to Steubenville and took out Big Red by a 41-20 count on Friday night in an Ohio Division III, Region 9 postseason battle.
Rodney James Jr. paced Steubenville with 214 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while Big Red QB Cade Kernahan tallied 130 yards and a score through the air in defeat.
Ohio Division VII, Region 27
River 7, Waterford 6
HANNIBAL — Waterford scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter and elected to go for 2 and the win. However, River’s defense stood tall and came up with the stop to advance to the next round in postseason action.
River’s lone score came in the second quarter when quarterback Brody Lollathin found Michael Johnson for a 78-yard touchdown pass.
Shadyside 48, Frontier 14
SHADYSIDE — Jacob Visnic garnered 149 yards and three touchdowns as Shadyside rolled past Frontier in a home playoff game.
Quarterback Rhys Francis put up 131 yards and two touchdowns, while running for 64 yards on nine attempts.
Francis’ top target was Mason Vannest, who hauled in two touchdowns and recorded 131 yards on five receptions.
Glouster Trimble 47
Monroe Central 26
GLOUSTER — Monroe Central hung tough with with one of the better teams in Division VII, Region 27, but the Seminoles eventually dropped a decision to Glouster Trimble in playoff action.
Senior Alex Kilburn rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns for the Seminoles while Malachi Rose-Burton passed for more than 73 and a TD and ran for 64 and two more scores, but it wasn’t enough as the top-seeded Tomcats (7-0) reeled off 35 unanswered points to rally from a 20-12 deficit.
Kilburn scored on a 25-yard run and Rose-Burton converted the two-point run for an 8-0 lead. Rose Burton then found Michael Bunning on a 29-yard TD strike and Rose-Burton ran in from 4 yards out as Monroe Central led 20-12.
However, it was all Brice Downs and GT. Downs ran for 180 yards and three touchdowns.
Garet Cramer charted 15 tackles for Monroe Central.
East Knox 20, Toronto 6
HOWARD — East Knox scored all of its points in the second half to erase a 6-0 deficit at the break to take down Toronto.
Garrett Dozier scored the Red Knights’ lone touchdown of the game and ran for 120 yards on 31 carries.
Cameron 44, Clay-Battelle 21
BLACKSVILLE — Isaac Ball piled up 313 yards and four touchdowns on 37 carries as Cameron upended Clay-Battelle.
Ball averaged 8.5 yards a carry and his longest run came from 50 yards out.
Bridgeport 28, Racine Southern 21
RACINE — The Bulldogs (3-5) surprised a lot of non-believers with this road victory.
The Tornadoes had rushed for more than 700 yards last week against Beallsville.
Buckeye Local 28
NEWCOMERSTOWN — The Panthers (2-6) blanked the homestanding Trojans.
Trey Hoover scored three rushing touchdowns and Brian Palmer had a receiving touchdown.
Tyler Consolidated 6
WILLIAMSTOWN — Hunter Throckmorton scored Tyler Consolidated’s only touchdown as the Silver Knights fell to Williamstown.
Throckmorton charted 117 yards and a score on 22 carries.
