Marshall Men’s Soccer Advances To the Final Four
CARY, N.C. — The Marshall University men’s soccer team has made history.
For the first time, the Thundering Herd advanced to the Final Four at the College Cup.
Jamil Roberts scored the lone goal of the game off an assist by Vitor Dias as No. 10 Marshall knocked off defending national champion and eighth-ranked Georgetown, 1-0 on Monday.
The Thundering Herd (11-2-3) will take on North Carolina on Friday.
The Tar Heels defeated Wake Forest in their quarterfinal matchup. The match will be aired on ESPNU.
Goalkeeper Oliver Semmle provided only two saves in the match, but one came with 45 seconds remaining.
It was his ninth shut out of the year.
The Thundering Herd have had a memorable postseason run. After taking down No. 23 Fordham University in overtime, Marshall had an evening more exciting game next as it defeated top-ranked Clemson.
Both teams went to penalty kicks where the Thundering Herd prevailed, 7-6.
