Junior Golf Is The Future of the Sport

I know I have written about junior golf and youngsters growing and playing the game of golf. I am on record as saying and writing that junior golf is not only the future of golf but is the future of Wheeling Country Club.

I have instituted a junior program at WCC and have also done an all-sports camp for golf, swimming, and tennis. I have some ideas being developed for junior golf in 2022 as well, but for now, this article is about 2021.

Our junior program is small in number but high in passion and fun.

I will teach any young person under 18 years old for free. I am completely dedicated to junior golf.

With this commitment in mind, I wish to invite all young golfers, regardless of skill level, to play in the Wheeling Junior Championship on July 22 at Wheeling Country Club.

This event has a boys division and a girls division, and the event also has 9-hole and 18-hole divisions for boys and girls. The entry fee for the event is $20.00 and includes lunch.

This is the second year for this championship, and we are proud to have the name of former USGA President and Wheeling native Stuart Bloch associated with this event in 2021 and beyond. This event will grow for years to come and will be a large part of junior golf in West Virginia and beyond.

On a personal note, to help encourage youngsters to participate in the Stuart Bloch Wheeling Junior Championship, I will pay the entry fee for the next 10 players that call the golf shop or stop in and sign up.

As I stated earlier in the column, I am committed to junior golf and by making this small contribution, I hope to remove any hurdle that stands in a young person’s path to playing golf.

Help me grow the game of golf by signing up your son, daughter, niece, nephew or grandchild for this event. I look forward to seeing a lot of kids on the golf course this day, and many other days.

It is not about the scores, it is about fun and having all youngsters exposed to the greatest game of all, golf.
