Girls OV Athletics Golf Tourney Slated for Friday at Whg. Park

The Fourth Annual OV Athletics.com Girls Golf Tournament will be held Friday at Bloch Memorial Course at Wheeling Park. A record 52 girls are registered to compete representing a record seventeen schools who are members of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference.

Seven of the top 10 girls from last year’s eighteen hole tournament return including individual champion Ella Keffer of Fort Frye. Also returning are runner-up Brooke Chamberlain of St. Clairsville, along with Grace Green of Shadyside; Lauren Tekely, John Marshall; Breanna Flood, Barnesville; Brenna Perkins, Union Local; Kiera Saksa, River; Payten Clark, John Marshall.

They will be challenged by 37 varsity players including tournament newcomers Isabella Ferrell and Grace Yan of Morgantown, Aubrey Estel of University and Maddie Potts of Wheeling Central.

Ten girls will battle it out in the nine hole Novice Division including Lauren Cline of Parkersburg South who won the Open Division in the West Virginia Girls Invitational Tournament held earlier in September at Mingo Bottom Golf Course in Elizabeth, WV.

John Marshall will look to defend its team title last year, but team captain Laken Parker has taken her golfing skills on to West Liberty University.

The team is led by Senior Lauren Tekely and super sophomore Payten Clark. The JM squad will be challenged by five other quality teams from St. Clairsville, Fort Frye, River, Monroe Central, and Edison.

Schools entering participants include this year: Barnesville, Edison, Ft Frye, John Marshall, Martins Ferry, Monroe Central, Morgantown, River, Shadyside, St. Clairsville, Union Local, University and Wheeling Central.

The shotgun start will begin at 10 am.

The tournament is organized by the John Marshall Golf Coaching Staff of Dave Gaudino, Bridget Carnahan and August “Gus” Hanson and is sponsored by Undo’s Family Restaurants.
