Steubenville Boys Move On

MINERVA — Caleb Noble found the back of the net for the game-winning-goal with six minutes remaining in Monday’s sectional opener, lifting the Big Red boys soccer team to a 3-2 victory on the road at Minerva.

With the win, Big Red, the No. 11 seed in the Division II, East 2 bracket, advances to play No. 4 seed Cambridge on Saturday.

Anthony Vendetti scored a pair of goals for Big Red, while Hayden Hicks made eight saves in net for Steubenville.


Indian Creek 1, Morgan 0

MCCONELLSVILLE — The Indian Creek girls soccer team edged No. 15 seed Morgan on the road, to advance in the Division II, East 2 District sectional tournament.

Indian Creek, the No. 16 seed, advances to challenge top seed St. Clairsville on Thursday.


Wheeling Park 3, Indian Creek 1

WHEELING — Wheeling Park defeated Indian Creek in four sets; 25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22.

Olivia Albrecht had 12 kills, Emily Braden had 14 digs, Kaitlyn Saunders registered 11 kills and Jillian Huffman racked up 33 assists with four kills and two aces.

The Patriots’ next home match is Senior Night vs Oak Glen on Tuesday, Oct. 26th.

Monroe Central 3, Conotton Valley 2

SHADYSIDE — The Seminoles pulled out a hard-earned five-set victory by scores of 15-25, 25-20, 28-26, 20-25 and 15-12 and earn a return trip to the Tiger Den on Thursday to take on host Shadyside with a trip to the Division IV Eastern District Tournament on the line.

Haylyn Hiles had 10 kills and six blocks. Kynzi Bishop produced 14 kills, while Trista Morris had 11. Morris also had 22 digs.

Shadyside 3, St. John Central 0

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers — fresh off their epic, five-set win against Caldwell in the OVAC Class 2A championship game — had no sort of letdown as they cruised to the Division IV Eastern District sectional co-final with a 25-3, 25-5 and 25-7 sweep inside the Tiger Den.

Shadyside scored 34 of its 75 points on aces. Bayleigh Harman, Kayla Kryah and Mady Violet all evenly split 24 aces. Gentry Brown, who had a season-low seven kills, posted four aces herself. Senior Caroline Mercer added 13 assists and three aces.

Magnolia 2, St. Mary’s 0 and

Magnolia 2, Paden City 0

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Blue Eagles had a clean sweep in a tri-match, defeating St. Mary’s 25-13, 25-16 and Paden City 25-18, 25-13.

Jenna Blain had 21 total points with five aces and four kills, Shaela Holiday had 13 total points with 13 kills, Jackie Rohde had 18 total kills with four aces and Julia Lilze had 13 total digs with four points.

Caldwell 3, CCHS 0

CALDWELL — The No. 7 seed Catholic Central volleyball team saw its tournament end on Monday with a 25-14, 25-4, 25-21, loss to No. 3 seed Caldwell on the road in a Division IV, East District sectional match.

Caldwell advances to face Strasburg Franklin, who defeated Malvern, 3-1.

Morgan 3, Edison 0

DUNCAN FALLS — The Edison volleyball team’s season ended on Monday with a three-set loss to No. 15 seed McConnelsville Morgan, 25-10, 25-19, 25-21, in a Div. III, East District sectional match at Philo High School.

The Wildcats were the No. 17 seed.

Morgan advances to challenge Fort Frye in the next round.

Hilnand 3, Buckeye Local 0

BERLIN — Buckeye Local’s volleyball team bowed out in the first round of the Division III, East District sectional tournament, 25-4, 25-8, 25-15, to No. 5 seed Berlin Hiland.

The Panthers were the No. 18 seed. Hiland moves on to face Coshocton.
