Park’s Delk, Barki Captain 26th All-Valley Girls Soccer Team

A record that stood for 20 years was no match for this forward. Delk recorded a new Wheeling Park High School soccer record 46 goals this season, while also delivering 20 assists in the process. Delk led the Patriots to the state title match as one of the captains of Coach Carrie Hanna’s club and was named first team all-state by the West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association. The sky is the limit for Delk, who is only in her sophomore year.

There were many reasons why the Wheeling Park girls’ soccer team was so dominant in its run to the state title match this year but one major factor was because of this senior defender. Time after time, Barki shut down the opposition’s best goal scorer, while also cashing in on three goals and 17 assists of her own. Her stellar play, especially in the state tournament, earned her a spot on the WVHSSCA all-state first team. Barki was also a team captain for the Patriots.

Olivia Baker

Weir

The future in the valley is bright when it comes to girls’ soccer. This young forward led by example on the field every game. In just her sophomore year, Baker turned in 20 goals and also dished out four assists for the Red Riders’ soccer team.

Alyssa Bodkin

St. Clairsville

Bodkin scored 39 goals, dished out 12 assists and was named the OVAC 4A Player of the Year. The two-year St. C. captain was also the Division II Eastern District Player of the Year and she was named first team All-OVAC, all-district and All-Buckeye 8.

Halen Bossart

Linsly

Another sophomore to grace this year’s All-Valley team –Bossart tallied nine goals and 13 assists and played great defense. She was named the OVAC 1A-3A Player of the Year, first team all-region and WVHSSCA second team all-state.

Alexus Greenlief

Oak Glen

Greenlief certainly did her part in helping Oak Glen reach the state tournament during a very memorable season. The Golden Bears’ goalkeeper turned in 132 saves and recorded 10 shutout victories on her way to earning All-OVAC recognition.

Lily Hanna

Wheeling Park

Lily Hanna connected on 12 goals and dished out nine assists for the state-bound Patriots this year but she really made her presence felt in the midfield. The sophomore earned first team all-region and second team all-state by the WVHSSCA.

Maria Meyer

Steubenville Catholic

Crusaders’ coach Jonathan Hoover calls Meyer “a very talented forward and is a big reason we had success this season.” The junior forward netted 27 goals, handed out four assists and averaged 1.5 goals per game for Steubenville Catholic.

Giana Nardo

St. Clairsville

The leader of the midfield – Nardo netted 19 goals and delivered 26 assists for the Red Devils. The junior was rewarded for her stellar performance with first team all-district, first team All-OVAC and first team All-Buckeye 8 honors.

Brooke Ohler

Brooke

The four-year letter-winner netted 11 goals, tallied 10 assists and forced 50 steals en route to earning first team All-OVAC and WVHSSCA all-state honors. Ohler was also named an OVAC All-Star and a West Virginia North/South All-Star.

Madison Platt

Brooke

What didn’t Platt do this year? She not only managed to score 32 goals and provide nine assists during the regular season but then she added five goals in the OVAC All-Star Game. The senior was named first team All-OVAC and second team all-region.

Adriana Pompeo

Wheeling Central

This junior forward netted 24 goals and handed out five assists on her way to securing first team All-OVAC and all-region honors. The standout was also named an all-state honorable mention by the WVHSSCA.

Grace Ridenhour

Linsly

The OVAC Champion Cadets were sparked by Ridenhour, who frustrated opposing offenses all season and was named first team All-OVAC, all-region and second team all-state by the WVHSSCA. She also scored a goal and recorded five assists.

Libby Saccoccia

Steubenville

This senior forward was a force to be reckoned with for Big Red. Saccoccia was lethal on offense as she scored 30 goals and handed out nine assists on her way to securing first team All-OVAC and first team All-Eastern District accolades.

Angelina Spickard

Madonna

This senior defender left her mark during her final prep campaign, leaving opposing offenses baffled. Her defensive skills earned her first team All-OVAC and first team all-region. She also netted 12 goals and dished out four assists on offense.

Maya Taggart

Wheeling Park

The state-bound Patriots wouldn’t have been the same without this senior. Taggart played a crucial role in the lineup as she scored 15 goals and tallied 11 assists on her way to first team all-region and WVHSSCA all-state honorable mention accolades.

Kami Ward

Oak Glen

Smashing thrilling shots and school records all in the same season ­ — Ward finished her memorable campaign with an Oak Glen record 49 goals. She also added 11 assists to earn first team All-OVAC for the state-bound Golden Bears.

Brooklyn Watts

Oak Glen

This attacking midfielder netted 20 goals and was unselfish, as well, delivering 23 assists for the state bound Golden Bears. The standout’s monster season did not go unnoticed as she took home first team All-OVAC honors for her achievements.
