John Marshall Blanks Liberty

GLEN DALE — The Monarchs improved to 5-2 on the season with a 4-0 blanking of visiting Liberty Thursday afternoon.

Junior Kadence Pettit had a stellar outing in the circle, allowing just one hit in the contest while striking out 11.

Catcher Sophia Adkins roped two singles and two RBI while outfielder Paytyn Tucker also drove in a run with two singles.

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders made it three wins in as many days and back-to-back wins over the Big Reds on Thursday by a 15-3 score.

As has been the case all week, the Riders broke out the bats, pounding out 13 hits.

Senior Maria Clark, who was the winning pitcher, continued her red-hot start at the plate with a home run, two singles and three RBI. Sophomore Ella McFarland had a home run, double and three RBI. Kaylinn Zinn had a double and three RBI. Hunter Pollock had a double, two singles and a RBI, while Danielle Lude and Lauren McFarland each had hits and a RBI.

Gianna Schmidt had a RBI for the Big Reds.

MORRISTOWN, the Jets (2-0) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete a game suspended by darkness on Wednesday.

Abi Marinelli’s run-scoring single plated the game-winner for the Jets.

Keira Gregor singled, doubled and homered for the winners, while Marissa McGary singled and doubled. Marinelli finished with two one-base raps and Hannah Merritt doubled.

Hannah Thoburn doubled and homered for St. Clairsville (0-3). Abby Salisbury singled twice, doubled and homered to produce six runs batted in. Dekotah Namack had a pair of two-baggers and an RBI while Alexis Hale doubled in another.

River 11, Frontier 8

SARDIS — River picked up its second win of the young season, fending off Frontier.

CADIZ, Tristen Kovarik struck out six, walked a pair and scattered seven hits as the Huskies improved to 2-1.

Olivia Tonkovich singled twice to knock in a run while Jenna Young, Isabella Yeager and Alaina Williams all had two-run singles, Maddy Butler singled in a run.

BEALLSVILLE, both teams had innings in which they scored 10-or-more runs, but it was the Zeps that won the slugfest.

Tyler Consolidated 12 Magnolia 0

SISTERSVILLE — For the second night in a row, Tyler Consolidated won big over Magnolia.

The Silver Knights struck for 12 runs in the first innings as they cruised to a five-inning mercy-rule victory. Hayden Brown drove in two runs as Jayden Helmick and Alec Chaplin both hit RBI triples. Garon Broughman and Gabriel Jackson both hit a double.

Starting pitcher Own Westbrook threw a five-inning one-hitter, striking out 12 with no walks.

Drake Kocher had the Blue Eagles’ lone hit.

Cameron 12, Valley 2

CAMERON — The Dragons put on a power display in a 12-2 win over the Lumberjacks, smacking seven extra-base hits in the process.

Isaac Ball led the charge with two doubles and two RBI, while Landon Van Tassell, Mason Scott and Bo O’Neil also ripped run-scoring two-baggers. Lance Hartley and Colson Wichterman finished off the power surge with a triple apiece.

On the mound, Nathan Haeberle cruised to the win with three one-hit innings.

For Valley, Walker Bassett roped a two-run double in the top of the fourth for the team’s only runs.

Buckeye Local 5

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks made it 2-0 for the season and completed the season sweep of Buckeye Local on Thursday evening.

Gavin Carpenter was strong on the mound with 11 strikeouts in five innings of work.

Offensively, the Shamrocks received two hits and two RBI from C.J. Hannahs. Kyvan Johnson and Kason Powell each had two hits and a RBI. Colton Hines and Logan Shepherd drove in two runs and had a single.

River 15, Beallsville 1

MARIETTA — River played long ball three times inside Don Drum Stadium at Marietta College in cruising past Beallsville on Thursday.

Fueling the Pilots attack was Peyton Blue who came up a single shy of the cycle. He drove in three runs.

Austin Creamer and Finn Bowers also had home runs. They drove in three and two runs, respectively in the game.

Brody Lollathin had a RBI single, while Hunter Nething, who earned the win on the mound with eight strikeouts and nary a walk, and Colton Cisar each had a RBI.

Beallsville got a single and RBI from Deyton Hughes.
