COLLEGE

TRACK & FIELD

High Point, NC. – While the snow and cold temperatures were flying in Wheeling on Friday, the Wheeling University Track & Field team was taking advantage of warmer weather at the High Point University Invitational. The Cardinals competed in nine different events on the first day of competition and got a big day from their field competitors to start the two-day event on a high note.

Leading the way was Keala McCurry once again in the Women’s Pole Vault, after setting the highest height in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) last week. McCurry marked the highest finish for the Cardinals on the day placing third in the Women’s Pole Vault Group B. She added .28 meters to her height last week, clearing 3.65 meters to rank third in the field. It was a new PR for McCurry and put her just .15 meters behind Campbell’s Lakeland Bass for the top spot in the event. McCurry won the MEC Indoor Pole Vault championship a few weeks ago, and is once again well on her way to competing for the MEC outdoor championship next month. It was the Wheeling jumpers that would keep the success going for the Cardinals.
