Park Softball Stays Alive
WHEELING — The Wheeling Park softball staved off elimination on Thursday as it upended visiting Brooke 7-1 in a Class AAA sectional contest.
Makiyah Strothers paced the Patriots with a single, a double and four RBI, while Makenna Kelly tallied two hits and two RBI and Katelyn Kozlowski garnered two hits. Delaney Theiss earned the win with five strikeouts and no walks.
Brooke was led by Madison Brown with a single, a double and a RBI. The Bruins’ lone senior Emilee Knorr charted two hits in her final game.
Class A, Section One
Wheeling Central 11, Cameron 0
WHEELING — Josie Frizzell struck out 10, walked one and allowed just two hits in a shutout victory over Cameron. She also doubled.
Jensen Rine paced the Maroon Knights’ offense with two hits, while Taylor Knollinger and Ava Hanson each added doubles.

Martins Ferry 11, Barnesville 3
BARNESVILLE — Fresh off their Buckeye 8 championship, the Purple Riders stayed hot, toppling the homestanding Shamrocks.
Martins Ferry pounded out 15 hits.
Senior Hunter Pollock led the charge with two doubles, a single and three RBI. Maria Clark had a triple, single and a RBI. Taylor Bell had a double and two singles to go with three RBI. Allarah Jones and Nevaeh Hall drove in runs with a single. Danielle Lude also had a RBI single and Eve Agnew had a pair of singles.
The Shamrocks received a home run, single and three RBI from Madelynn Tyson. Jalyn Skinner had a pair of singles.
Linsly 1, Shadyside 0
WHEELING — Bayleigh Burwell was once again impressive in the circle, shutting down a solid Tiger lineup to a tune of two hits.
Burwell struck out 10 and walked three in earning the complete-game win.
Offensively, Sophia Monk singled home the game’s lone run. Lexi Finley had a double and a single for the Cadets.
Bellaire 15, River 1
ST. JOE — The homestanding Big Reds scored early and often en route to a five-inning victory against the Pilots.
Bellaire’s offense was fueled by Rylie Porter, who had a grand slam, double and four RBI. Junior Lizzie McAninch had a home run, three singles and three RBI, while Alexis Morgan had a two singles, a double and a RBI, while Taylor Menendez had a trio of singles and a RBI.
Kelsey Harlan had two singles for the Pilots.
St. Clairsville 34, East Liverpool 2
EAST LIVERPOOL — The Red Devils picked up their third win of the season in resounding fashion.
St. Clairsville hit four home runs, including a pair from junior slugger Abby Salisbury.
Salisbury hit a three-run home run and then connected on a grand slam and drove in eight for the day.
Hannah Thoburn had a three-run blast and Dekotah Namack had a two-run shot.
Alex Hale and Elanna Goudy each drove in three runs. Rachel Finnical and Miranda Carmen both had two RBI.
Pitcher Lainey Benedict had three hits and a RBI.
All told, St. C. pounded out 17 hits.
Union Local 10, Beaver Local 5
LISBON – Lauren Miller slammed a pair of solo home runs to lead a 15-hit Union Local attack Thursday in a 10-5 victory over homestanding Beaver Local in high school softball action.
Marissa McGary also went deep for the Jets (11-7) in addition to a pair of singles. She finished with two runs batted in. Alleigh Cheatham belted two doubles while winning pitcher Kiera Gregor and Emily Kellaway each singled and doubled. Ava Lucas had a run-scoring base hit and Abi Marinelli doubled.
Union Local hosts Martins Ferry today.
Toronto 9, Buckeye Local 6
TORONTO – The Panthers ran out of magic against the host Red Knights.
Rylie White slugged a double and home run that accounted for three RBI for Buckeye Local. Alli Trekal had a two-run double and Samantha Ankrom singled in a run.

Braxton County 0
BRAXTON — Ty Walton struck out 11 and Zade Billings supplied two hits and two RBI as Tyler Consolidated shut out Braxton County.
Hayden Brown collected two hits and a RBI, Jayden Helmick garnered a single and a double and Carson Gorby added a RBI.
Martins Ferry 6, John Marshall 0
MARTINS FERRY — Purple Rider senior Colby Shriver was up to his same ol’ tricks on Thursday, working a complete-game gem to pick up another mound win.
Shriver struck eight eight and walked three in a one hitter.
Brayden Maine had a triple, single and drove in three runs. Connor Probst had a double, single and drove in a run, while both Hayden Smith and Jesse Nagel had a pair of singles.
St. Clairsville 11, Conotton Valley 1
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils picked up a win against the Rockets in five innings thanks to a nine spot in that fifth.
Freshman Brody Saunders picked up the mound win with six strikeouts.
Sophomore Mason Myers had a single, double and drove in two. Classmate Hunter Hoffman drove in a pair with a like number of singles. Marcus Bush, another sophomore, had a two-run single. Senior Logan Shields had two singles and three RBI. Jaren Starks and Braylen Blomquist each singled home a run.
River 10, Union Local 9
HANNIBAL — The Pilots pushed across five in the bottom of the sixth and then had to hang on for the victory against the Jets on Thursday.
Ruver received an impressive offensive showing from freshman Peyton Blue, who had two singles and three RBI. Austin Cramer and Lucas Dennis each had two singles with three and two RBI, respectively. Hunter Nething also drove in a run.
Evan White led the Jets with a double, two singles and five RBI. Dakota Hess had a double, two singles and a RBI. JakeToohey doubled home a run. Josh Neidert had a single, double and two RBI.
Brooke tops Buckeye
WELLSBURG–The Brooke baseball team exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth for a comeback win at home over visiting Buckeye Local on Thursday, 11-7.
The Panthers two each in innings three, four and five after the Bruins had opened a 2-1 lead.
Brooke scored three in the bottom of the fifth then six an inning later to plate the game’s final nine runs.
Charlie Fuscardo and Alex Jezierski each had two hits and two RBIs for the Bruins, Jezierski recording a double. Anthony Bachinski, Jace Campinelli and Hunter Mozingo also plated runs. Mozingo fanned two in going the final 4 2/3 innings to earn the win in relief of Jezierksi, who fanned two in 2 1/3 innings.
Jacob Berry went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Panthers with a double and four RBIs.
Matt Scott tossed the first 4 1/3 innings for a no-decision, while the Panthers’ Kaleb Stang took the loss in relief.
Paden City 14, Hundred 2
PADEN CITY — Brandon Hizer celebrated Senior Day with a double to help Paden City upend visiting Hundred.
Will McGinnis singled, doubled and drove in three runs, while Ashton Little earned the win with 11 strikeouts and no walks. He also added a hit and three RBI for the Wildcats.
Christian Fluharty continued his strong year for the Hornets with a single, a double and a RBI.
