WHEELING — The Linsly Cadets had an exciting opening to the golf season Friday as they defeated John Marshall by a single stroke, 145-146, at the Bloch Memorial Course at Wheeling Park.

JM’s Ethan Cook was the match medalist, shooting 4-under 30, but the Monarchs could not match Linsly’s top four scores of 34, 35, 38 and 38. Matteo Guzzo led the Cadets with even-par 34, Matt Scouvert shot 35 whilw Adam Gill and Matteo Pontecarvo both carded 38.

Cook was backed by seniors Colton Sprowls (36) and Ty Cox (39) while junior Raymond Steed added 41.

Brooke Tops Oak Glen

WELLSBURG — The Brooke Bruins were triumphant in their season-opener against Oak Glen, prevailing 187-209 at Highland Springs Golf Course.

Brooke’s Nick Cipoletti was the match medalist shooting 41, followed by Mason Rees (42), Owen Petrella (48) and Henry Anderson (56).

Logan Weekley led the Golden Bears with a 44, supported by Brady Chaney (47), Caleb Lang (59) and Brasinn Provenzauo (59).
