Prep Roundup: Cameron Pulls Away From Madonna; Central Rolls
Photo by Bill Ferguson Cameron freshman Kason Angel returns an interception 42 yards for a touchdown at the start of the third quarter against Madonna.
CAMERON — For the second week in a row, Cameron hosted a quality opponent and for the second week in a row, the Dragons picked up a convincing win.
Last week it was a defensive 21-7 triumph over Tyler Consolidated, this week it was a second-half explosion against Madonna in which the Dragons scored the final 32 points of the game.
Cameron (6-0) held a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Blue Dons (3-2) scored as time expired to make it 14-8 heading into halftime. Back-to-back pick-sixes to start the third quarter firmly put the Dragons in contol, however.
First, freshman Kason Angel picked off a pass and returned it 42 yards to paydirt for a 20-8 advantage. Just 11 seconds later, Was Starcher returned an interception of his own 13 yards and the Dragons’ lead had ballooned to 27-8 less than a minute into the second half.
Cole Burkett ran for 36 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 19 yards and another score. J Ross led the Dragons with 70 yards on the ground and a touchdown while Payton Neely gained 59 infantry yards and made his own trip into the endzone.
Quarterback Colson Wichterman completed 6-of-9 passes for 64 yards with a touchdown and interception and ran for 23 yards and a score.
The Dragons will host Valley next week. Madonna will welcome Toronto on Saturday.
