Journey Begins to the West Virginia State Football Championships
Six Ohio Valley teams earn spot in opening round of playoffs
WHEELING — Six Ohio Valley teams will take part starting this week in the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission’s football championships. The SSAC on Saturday released seeding for the four classes.
CLASS AAAA
In Class AAAA, where all 16 teams made the playoffs, Wheeling Park High School is a 5 seed and will face Spring Mills at Wheeling Island Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday. Park (7-3) lost earlier this year to Spring Mills, 27-0. Spring Mills, at 5-5, had to forfeit four of its games due to an ineligible player with its only in-game loss coming to No. 1 seed Martinsburg.
Park had been a 3 seed going into the final week and a win over John Marshall High School, but fell to a 5 seed after Wood County Schools received an injunction Saturday morning that required the SSAC to seed teams based on how they were classified prior to Aug. 5.
