WHEELING — The Ohio Valley’s 2024-25 high school swim season splashed into existence Thursday as Wheeling Park and The Linsly School met at The Stifel Pool on Linsly’s campus. At the end of the meet, the Lady Cadets captured a tight 77-74 win, while the Wheeling Park boys earned a narrow, 86-82 victory.
Some solid times emerged particularly for the first meet of the season.
One of those came during the final event of the evening. The Wheeling Park 4X100 freestyle relay team of Ronan Maxwell, Malachi Smith, Brady Bowie and Levi Parker swam a 3:38.43 — only four seconds slower than the group finished at the state tournament in February.
Other strong swims came from Smith in the 50 free (23.07) and Linsly’s Jasmine Lourenco (26.75). In the 500 freestyle, Linsly senior Greta Temporin had a solid 5:39.65 while Linsly sophomore Emilio Soto touched the wall at 5:13.8.
In the 100 breaststroke, Linsly sophomore Sebastian Jayakumar (1:12.31) out-touched Wheeling Park sophomore Brady Biehl (1:12.95) for the win.
