Koopman Nets Game-Winner in Overtime as Nailers Split a Pair in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Worcester Railers battled back with two goals in the final five minutes to force overtime Sunday before Massachusetts native Matt Koopman lifted the Wheeling Nailers into the win column at the 49-second mark of the extra session.

Chris Ortiz factored in every Wheeling goal, as the Nailers won 4-3 to finish their best first half in team history at 26-8-2.

Taylor Gauthier earned the win for the Nailers, as he turned away 35 of the 38 shots he faced. Hugo Ollas took the overtime loss for Worcester, as he made 28 saves on 32 shots.

The Nailers will return home for three games against the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

RAILERS 4, NAILERS 3 (SATURDAY)

The Wheeling Nailers went 13 straight road games without allowing a power play goal. On Saturday night, they ran into one of the top units in the ECHL, and the Railers were successful on three of four opportunities.

The final man advantage marker snapped a tied score in the third period and gave Worcester the 4-3 decision at DCU Center. Anthony Callin factored into all four Railers goals with two goals and two assists, and he also scored the game winner.

Michael Bullion got the win for Worcester, as he made 29 saves on 32 shots. Sergei Murashov suffered his first regulation loss in 16 games, as he stopped 19 of 23 shots.
