West Liberty Wrestling Earns No. 9 Spot In Latest Rankings
WEST LIBERTY – The West Liberty University men’s wrestling team continues to cement its status as a national powerhouse, earning the No. 9 spot in the latest The Open Mat Top 25 Tournament Poll. Additionally, the Hilltoppers are ranked No. 16 in the dual rankings.
West Liberty boasts six wrestlers in the national rankings, led by two-time national champion Ty McGeary, who holds the No. 1 spot at 184 pounds. The other ranked Hilltoppers include Logan Davis – No. 7 at 125; Parker Bentley – No. 7 at 285; Carter Winegardner – No. 8 at 174; Alec Cook – No. 14 at 165 and Jordan Watters – No. 15 at 157.
Davis, a freshman, is a three-time W.Va. Class A/AA state champion from Oak Glen, while Cook, a graduate student, is a two-time W.Va. Class A/AA state champion from Madonna and earned NCAA D-II All-American status during the 2022-23 season with a sixth-place finish.
The Hilltoppers return to action this weekend with two home duals at the ASRC. On Friday at 6:30 p.m.they host Gannon (ranked No. 12/13 by The Open Mat). Then, on Saturday at noon they entertain Davis & Elkins.
