Monarchs Win On The Road vs. Hawks

MORGANTOWN — All that John Marshall needed was two, thanks to a terrific pitching effort by Hunter Coulter, but the Monarchs tacked on three runs for good measure in the seventh inning of a 5-2 road victory over the University Hawks.

Coulter threw the complete game for the Monarchs, allowing only two hits and striking out four. The senior did walk six.

University struck first and took a 1-0 advantage in the second, but John Marshall put up two runs in the fourth to take a permanent lead.

Third baseman Mason Markonich walloped the only extra-base hit of the game for John Marshall with a double, but the Monarchs had nine hits as a team going station-to-station. Right fielder Jayden Astipalitis led the way with three hits and three RBI out of the five-hole.

Hayden Hughes and Kayden Knapp also drove in runners.

John Marshall stole five bases as a team. Cain Martin, Markonich, Astipalitis, Hayden Gaiser and Jacob Cisar each swiped one bag.
