Red Riders Score in Eighth To Top Patriots

WEIRTON — Gigi Paladina socked a sacrifice sly in the top of the eighth, and the Weir Red Riders were able to shut the door in the bottom half to win on their home field over the Wheeling Park Patriots, 8-7, on Friday.

Eliza Utt pitched the full eight innings for Weir, while Paladina, Rayna Hoover, and Bella Weber each hit doubles and Brayley Lash homered. Hoover led the team with two RBI.

Delaney Randolph started the game for Wheeling Park before surrendering the pill to Emma Wear in the fourth. Wear worked the remaining five innings.

There were five Patriot extra-base hits on Friday– all doubles, one apiece from Alivia West, Brenna Tipton, Randolph, Grace Tamburin and Kylah Cunningham.

Tamburin had three hits in total. Randolph, West and Wear each finished with two RBI.

Each team scored three runs in the first inning, and Weir led 6-5 after four innings. Wheeling plated two in the fifth to flip the lead, but Weir tied the game in the sixth and got their go-ahead run from Paladina in the eighth.
