A Pennsylvania man that played football for one season at Wheeling University has been identified as the fan that fell over the right-center field railing earlier this week at a Pittsburgh Pirates game.

Kavan Markwood is a 2022 graduate of South Allegheny High School and played football during the 2023 season at Wheeling University. He remains in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.

“The Wheeling University Athletic Department is heartbroken to hear of the tragedy that occurred at PNC Park involving former Wheeling Football Player Kavan Markwood,” a statement from Wheeling University said. “Markwood was a valued member of our Cardinal family, playing with the Wheeling Football team for the 2023 season after transferring from Walsh. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kavan, his family, friends, and all his loved ones.”
