WHEELING — The 79th Annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game is set for Saturday, July 19 at 7 p.m. in Wheeling Island Stadium. Below is some information from the game’s long history, leading up to its next iteration Saturday night.

• Longest Winning Streak: Ohio nine in a row (1995-2003)

• The event’s only two ties came in 1992, when the game was rained out, and in 2024’s 13-13 tie.

• Since 1940, the only years where there were no OVAC All-Star teams were 2020, 1971, 1970, 1963, 1945, 1944, and 1943.

• After World War II prompted the absence of games in 1943, ’44 and ’45, the 1946 game allowed seniors from the last four years to be eligible for selection. 33 of the 44 participants were World War II veterans.

• In 1946, ’47 and ’48, teams were selected by fans, who voted for players by ballots in the newspaper.

• In the 1946, ’47, ’48, ’49, ’52 and ’53 games, the teams were coached by college coaches, including Frank Thomas and Harold “Red” Drew from Alabama, Bob Higgins from Penn State, and Arthur “Slick” Morgan from Mississippi State.

• Most Points Scored In A Game: 47, reached by Ohio in both 1979 and 2009.

• Lowest-Scoring Game: 1964 – Ohio 2, West Virginia 0

• Largest Point Differential: 1990 – Ohio 42, West Virginia 0

• The last shutout was in 2006, where Ohio blanked West Virginia 22-0. There have been 22 total shutouts in 78 previous contests, including six straight from 1964-1969.
