Post 1 Recovers For 14-7 Win Over Post 34
WELLSBURG – Rocco Digiandomenico tallied three hits and four RBI to help Wheeling Post 1 overcome a 7-2 first-inning deficit and defeat Wellsburg Post 34 14-7 Tuesday on Brooke High School’s baseball field.
Digiandomenico notched two RBI singles and two sac flies in the game, including a sacrifice fly as part of a three-run fifth inning where Post 1 tied the game 7-7.
A double by Henry Anderson and single by Jack Selmon also drove in runs in the frame.
Erik Blazier earned the win on the mound for Wheeling, working six scoreless innings and striking out eight.
Zade Billings’ double and Digiandomenico’s single put Wheeling ahead 2-0 after the first inning, but Wellsburg exploded in the bottom half, an inning punctuated by Matt Geer’s two-run double.
Wheeling Post 1 scored seven runs of their own in the sixth to take a lead and then some. Selmon’s two-run double was the biggest swing of the frame.
Five different Post 1 players walloped doubles in the game- Anderson, Selmon, Billings, Jake Brown and Braxton Billick. Billick had two.
