High School Roundup: Bellaire Girls Improve To 4-0 Behind Hines, Morgan, Edgar

BELLAIRE – Bellaire (4-0) erased a 12-8 deficit after one quarter by outscoring visiting Cambridge 14-2 in the second eight minutes en route to a 42-29 girls’ basketball victory inside the ‘House of Champions’ on Monday night.’

Aubree Hines scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the decisive second quarter.

The Big Reds’ Tamya Morgan fashioned a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked four shots. Kayla Edgar charted five steals and five assists to go along with six points. Jaelyn McShan pulled down seven rebounds.

The Bobcats fell to 2-1.

Monroe Central 48, Waterford 31

WOODSFIELD – The Seminoles (3-1) bounced back from a loss at Union Local to hand defending Ohio Division IV state champion Wildcats (1-1) a decisive loss on Junior Winland Court inside Monroe Central High School.

Jadyn Miller led Monroe Central with 16 points, while Mayzie Emery added a dozen. Maci Isaly contributed eight and Allie McFrederick had seven.

A 21-10 scoring advantage in the second quarter fueled by Miller’s 11 points, proved to be the difference as the Seminoles led 27-16 at the half and outscored Waterford 21-15 after the intermission break.

Wilson also pulled down seven rebounds and charted a like number of steals.

Frontier 37, River 36

BEAVERTOWN – The host Cougars slipped past the Pilots in a nail-biter.

River’s Carleigh Trifonoff had 18 points – all on treys – and Zoey Fox added eight.

Anna Bowersock tied Trifonoff for game scoring honors.

Indian Creek 59, Buckeye Local 16

CONNORVILLE – The Indian Creek girls’ basketball team delivered another strong defensive performance against Jefferson County and Buckeye 8 rival Buckeye Local.

The Redskins limited the Panthers to just six field goals and single digits in all four quarters as Indian Creek defeated Buckeye Local, 59-16, via mercy rule in a varsity-only game Monday night on the road down on Kara Bright Court.

Indian Creek has only allowed 37 points in two games this season.

Offensively for Indian Creek, Riley Sadler delivered a game-high 21 points, Kaydence Walker contributed 10 and Gracie Klinesmith tallied nine.

For Buckeye Local, Alexis Becker recorded a team-high five points, while Brooke Driscoll collected four.

Indian Creek is scheduled to play Buckeye 8 rival Beaver Local Thursday at home on Coach D Court.

Buckeye Local is slated to play Buckeye 8 rival Brooke Thursday on the road inside the Brooke Wellness Center.
