Trends in Spa Treatments Are Available Locally

By SCOTT McCLOSKEY

Staff Writer

When it comes to pampering yourself in the world of spas, trends are revealing that more people, including more men, are becoming more mindful about taking longer breaks and receiving more personalized spa services.

The West Spa at Wilson Lodge at Oglebay Resort is one local spa that provides guests with relaxing and therapeutic services and offers some of the latest trends in spa treatments. The West Spa offers an array of services including: massage therapy, manicures and pedicures, body treatments such as reflexology, facial treatments and waxing. The spa utilizes the finest products and equipment, according to management.

The West Spa Manager Jessica Johnston said the spa industry is all about about being more mindful and really taking care of yourself.

“The wellness angle is becoming very large as well,” Johnston said.

She noted the therapists at West Spa work very hard to personalize their services for each guest. She said spa customers can schedule something as simple as a 25-minute neck and shoulder message on a lunch break or something more extensive, such as a 110-minute massage. While the facility is not a medical spa, Johnston said West Spa can offer therapeutic advice, such as how to pinpoint the relaxation of specific muscles with the stretching of those muscles.

“Our girls are very highly educated. They go through regular certification and regular classes … always out learning something new,” Johnston said.

She said staffers travel throughout the United States to take part in continuing education programs and classes. The West Spa has seven certified therapists and seven treatment rooms, with one of the rooms designated as a couples room.

As services for couples (dual massages) are becoming more popular, Johnston said The West Spa is seeing more couples and more men in general schedule spa treatments on a regular basis.

“More men are becoming more mindful … and that it is a necessity, not just a luxury anymore,” Johnston commented. “Everybody’s lifestyle is fast paced. Everybody is working, working, working, shuffling kids, shuffling family and everything else that they have in their daily schedule.”

Johnston said she has also seen a trend toward longer breaks and longer spa treatments for many people.

“We have a lot of 80-minute and 110-minute services,” Johnston said.

She added that while many guests are booking longer spa times, it always about tailoring each session for each individual guest and the time they have available for a spa treatment.

The West Spa is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations are recommended, as appointments are based on availability. For more information about The West Spa or to schedule an appointment, call 304-243-4130.
