Tyler Softball Looking for More

SISTERSVILLE — The Tyler Consolidated softball team is gearing up for what could be a stellar season.

The Silver Knights claimed the sectional title a season ago and fell in the regionals, but they did not lose any seniors to graduation and bring back five seniors to this year’s squad, which fifth-year head coach Samantha Livingston is psyched about.

“We have five returning seniors, three of which have been my captains for three year,” Livingston said. “This is the largest number of seniors I have had on the team in two years and we didn’t lose any starter from last year.”

The three senior captains include Vanessa Templeton (P/LF/3B/1B), Madison West (P/LF) and Kylie Martin (SS), while Payden Clem (2B/3B/RF) and Rhianna Long (RF/3B) round out the senior class.

“This is an incredible senior class,” Livingston said. “I love them and I lean on them. I can’t wait for the season to start but it is bittersweet because it is the last year with the senior class. They are great leaders.”

Pitching looks to be the strength this season with Templeton and West both returning to the circle, while freshman Madison DeVaughn can also toss some innings for the Knights, as well as serve time in the infield.

The junior class is headed by defensive standouts Madison Lasick at first base and Kenna Smith in center field.

“Madison (Lasick) is our first baseman and is pretty solid on defense and at the plate,” Livingston said.

“Kenna (Smith) played center last year for us and she is going to be very strong out there this year.”

Julianna Miller (2B), Joralda Rice (LF/3B) and Autumn Wells round out the junior class.

Four sophomores hoping to make an impact on the 2017 campaign include JoLee Walton (C, 3B, 2B), who is coming off a successful basketball season, along with Brianna Wade (3B, 2B), Taylor Ebert (OF) and Shiann Jones (OF).

Five freshmen joining the Silver Knights this year are Hannah Jackson (OF), Alaina Thompson (OF), Summer Miller (INF), Ali Miller (INF), along with DeVaughn.

Joining Livingston in the dugout as the Knights assistant coach is Bobby West.

Livingston and West are both anticipating a strong season on the diamond and they are hoping to build off of the success of last year’s team.

“Our goal this year is to win the sectionals again,” Livingston said. “We would also like to place in the OVAC and the LKC bracket.”

As Tyler returns every starter from last year’s sectional championship team, those goals are definitely in reach for the Silver Knights.
