CAMERON -- The Cameron girls' basketball team continues to check the boxes off of their list of goals this season.
After crossing off an OVAC title several weeks ago, the Dragons added a West Virginia Class A, Region One, Section One trophy to their display case on Friday with an 83-23 dismantling of visiting Hundred in the sectional final.
"It's good but we're still hungry," Cameron girls' coach Holly Pettit said. "After last year we got a little bit of a taste of what it's like and it has us wanting more.
"Hopefully we can check a couple more boxes off -- a big win next Wednesday would allow us to check that box off and get to Charleston and hopefully we can get some wins down there."
Ashlynn VanTassell recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Dragons, while freshman Maci Neely supplied a stellar effort with 17 points.
Kenzie Clutter was lights out from 3-point range as she drained five treys for 15 points, along with eight assists. Ashlee Dobbs turned in 10 points in the victory and Emilee Dobbs added eight points to help the Dragons run away with their second consecutive sectional crown.
"This is the second sectional title in my three coaching years," Pettit said. "This group of girls is great. Their attitudes are great. They are more like sisters than teammates.
"They are a lot of fun to coach. When they are fun to coach and they get along, that's half the battle when you get a group of girls together."
Pettit is also thrilled with the encouragement shown by the town during her team's strong campaign.
"The support we are getting from the community is great," Pettit said. "Local restaurants are donating food and local companies are donating meals for the team. It's very much appreciated for sure."
Cameron set the tone in the first quarter with a 25-5 showing as Neely bucketed 10 points and Clutter hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening frame.
In the second quarter, Cameron went inside where VanTassell couldn't be stopped as she poured in 10 points during the 8 minute span to help her squad take a commanding 46-11 lead into halftime.
A 16-2 march to begin the third was sparked by back-to-back treys by Clutter and Neely, who helped Pettit and company capture a 72-17 upper hand after three before wrapping it up in the final frame.
Hundred was led by Roxie Huggins with 12 points and Summer Morris with six.
The Hornets will now travel to Doddridge County in a regional final.
All that stands between the Dragons and a return trip to Charleston for the state tournament is a Wednesday night home matchup in the regional title game against Tyler Consolidated, a team Cameron has handled twice already this year.
"We've played them twice so far," Pettit said. "They have a couple of good guards. They are quick and they are well-coached so I'm sure they are going to come in well-prepared. Hopefully, we can prepare for them and take it one game at a time. We want to work 110% every single day. It's now or never."
