WHEELING -- A free community Earth Day Block Party will take place in downtown Wheeling Saturday following a litter clean-up blitz.
Those interested in volunteering for the annual Earth Day Litter Cleanup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. are asked to meet at 58-19th St. for sign-in and supplies. Documentation is available for those in need of volunteer hours.
After the cleanup, a free community block party will take place all day downtown. Because of predicted inclement weather later in the day, the block party event will not be held at Heritage Port as originally planned. The event will take place from 1-8 p.m. on the third floor of the Artisan Center.
There will be live music throughout the day. From 1-6 p.m. there will be appearances by Your Friendly Valley Wide Spiderman, the Valley Avengers and Enchanted Valley Princes. There will be games, exhibitors and vendors on hand, as well.
The live music schedule includes performances by The Hooch from 1-2 p.m., Steel Cassa from 2:30-3:20 p.m., Mr. Fancy Pants from 4-5:40 p.m. and Gypsy Cowboys from 6-8 p.m.
A Moon River Star Watch will be held from 8-10 p.m.
This Earth Day Littler Cleanup and Earth Day Block Party is being presented by the Ohio County Solid Waste Authority in conjunction with the Wheeling Parks and Recreation Department. Additional support is being provided by Kozicki Hughes Tickerhoof CPAs, Liberty Distributors, Republic Services and the Visit Wheeling WV -- the Wheeling-Ohio County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
